FULL-TIME FARM MANAGER
Lancaster, Ohio
Farm Manager / Field Projects Manager
Legacy Acres Land Company – Lancaster, Ohio
The time has come. White flag up — it’s past time to hire.
Legacy Acres Land Company is looking for the right person to step into a Farm Manager / Field Projects Manager role. This is not a desk job. This is a hands-on, outdoors-first position for someone who takes pride in hard work, responsibility, and seeing real projects through from start to finish.
I’m fortunate to own land across several areas of Ohio, and the workload has grown beyond what I can handle alone. I’m looking for someone I can trust — someone who can think critically, work independently, and represent the company well when I’m not on-site.
If you’re the kind of person who needs to be outside, who doesn’t mind long days (and the occasional long night), and who enjoys working with land, equipment, and wildlife projects — this could be your dream role.
A Quick Reality Check (Read This Carefully)
I cast a strong vision — and I stand behind it — but let’s be very clear about something:
This job is real work. It is hard. And most days, it is not sexy.
If your mental picture of this role is “all play, no grind,” you’re going to be disappointed. There will be hot days, dirty days, frustrating days, and long stretches where the work is repetitive, uncomfortable, and physically demanding.
Before you apply, let the euphoria wear off. Sit with the idea that this isn’t a highlight reel — it’s consistent effort, discipline, and doing the unglamorous work that actually makes the land, the business, and the results worth showing later.
If you still feel called to it after that — you’re probably wired the right way.
The Work
No two days look the same. One day you might be:
Mowing, spraying herbicides, or weed-eating
Hanging treestands or setting blinds
Digging or improving water holes
Installing culverts or maintaining access
Filling feeders (yeah… that part isn’t glamorous)
Building or maintaining blinds
Servicing and maintaining equipment
Picking up materials or supplies
Meeting subcontractors to review scopes of work
Showing a farm to a prospective buyer
Putting out “For Sale” signs
Helping at the shop with business projects
Representing us at a trade show
If you’re reading this and thinking, “Yep, I get it” — you probably do.
This role includes overseeing and performing wildlife habitat improvements, land improvements, and general farm maintenance tied to the properties we buy and sell. Knowledge of wildlife habitat work and a general “green thumb” are a big plus, but not mandatory.
Heavy equipment experience is a massive bonus. If you can operate it, maintain it, haul it, and put it away correctly — even better.
Trust & Responsibility
This role requires a high level of trust. You’ll be handling hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of equipment. I need someone who can:
Load, haul, and operate equipment safely
Bring it back clean, maintained, and stored properly
Make good decisions in the field without supervision
This is a role for someone who can work alone without creating problems — and who knows how to get out of problems when they arise.
Culture & Fit
I’m a culture-first employer.
If you’re allergic to:
Hot days
Hard work
Consistency
Positive attitude
Thinking on your feet
Learning from mistakes
Or having an infectious desire to learn and grow
…this won’t be a good fit.
Construction skills? Huge bonus. We’re always building — especially right now at the barn. Not required, but definitely a fist-pump if you bring that skill set.
We’re a small company with big goals. The right team members matter here — a lot.
Location (Non-Negotiable)
You must be geographically close to Lancaster, Ohio.
That’s where our equipment lives, and commuting two hours each way isn’t going to work for either of us. I’m making major investments in storage and equipment, and Lancaster is the hub. We can be flexible where it makes sense — but proximity matters.
Growth & Opportunity
I don’t expect someone to have every skill listed on day one.
If you do — call me immediately.
If you have some but not all, a strong work ethic and a real desire to learn will go a long way with me. I’m willing to teach land management, real estate, and land development. As trust is built, autonomy will grow.
I can’t hand you the keys to the castle on day one — but I can offer you the runway to get there.
Content & Media (Occasional)
From time to time, you may run a camera or help capture content in the field. You don’t need video experience today — but you need to be open to learning.
We create a lot of content, and sometimes I’ll need a cameraman. Other times, you’ll be filming yourself. Small companies require people who are comfortable wearing multiple hats — and this role is no exception.
Compensation
This is a full-time position. Salary will depend on experience. Benefits can be discussed and will depend on skill set and fit.
This position will not require you to use your own transportation. Company vehicles and equipment will be provided for work-related travel.
The Perks
Oh — and yes.
You’ll have access to hunt our land.
